The Legacy of ECW Arena: 1996

O artigo seguinte possui dois objectivos claros: Primeiro dar a conhecer um legado de um dos edifícios de wrestling mais conhecidos no Mundo e segunda dar a conhecer a verdadeira ECW, não aquele garbage wrestling mas sim tudo o que de bom a ECW deu ao wrestling. No fim espera-se feedback para se tentar analisar os benefícios destes artigos que ocorrerão semanalmente.

Ano de 1996

Janeiro de 1996, foi onde começou a serie de combates entre Rob Van Dam e Sabu, Raven e Sandman bateram-se pelo ECW Heavyweight Title e onde se deu a rivalidade entre os Gangstas e Eliminators.

Em Março de 1996, Rey Mysterio Jr. e Juventud Guerrera deram uma demonstração de como é a lucha livre ao terem um combate de 2 of 3 falls memorável. Nesse mês aconteceu o adeus emocionado de Cactus Jack que tinha derrotado Mikey Whipwreck.

No “Matter of Respect” em Maio, Chris Jericho fez a sua estreia na ECW contra Mikey Whipwreck. O Verão de 1996 ficou evidenciado com a guerra entre os Eliminators contra os Gangstas traduzida num excelente e sangrento “steel cage weapons” match.

No HeatWave de 1996, a ECW brindou-nos com um tremendo four way pelo título da Televisão, combate que envolveu Scorpio, Chris Jericho, Pitbull #2 e Shane Douglas.

O Outono de 1996 proporcionou um excelente embate entre Terry Gordy e Steve Williams contra o Eliminators para além de Sabu e Rob Van Dam contra Dan Kroffat e Doug Furnas. Nessa altura aconteceu um dos scaffold matches mais violentos da história, no “High Incident” onde Tommy Dreamer enviou Brian Lee de cima de uma estrutura que estava junto ao tecto da arena, caindo este em cima de uma serie de mesas em cima do ringue. Nesse mesmo ano, outros nomes de destaque passaram na ECW, nomes como Mr. Hughes, The Blue Meanie, Too Cold Scorpio, El Puerto Ricano, Bad Crew, The Headhunters, Big Titan, Damien Kane, Little Guido, Brian Lee, Beef Wellington, Devon Storm e Samoan Gangsta Party.
